Magdalena Neuner (GER, Fischer skis and boots) and Dominik Landertinger (AUT, Fischer skis and boots) claimed victory in the last Mass start of the 09l10 Biathlon season.
Dominik Landertinger won the first World Cup race in his career. The 27-year old Austrian only had to go for one penalty loop and crossed the finishline 3.6 seconds ahead of Arnd Peiffer (GER, Fischer) who hit all of the twenty targets. "That was a great final of a long season. Today the shooting finally worked almost perfectly and I was in good shape on the tracks," said the overwhelmed winner.
Simon Eder (AUT, Fischer skis and boots) missed the podium in fourth place by just 6.3 seconds. Just 1.4 seconds later Simon Fourcade (FRA, Fischer skis and boots) finished in fifth place.
On the womens side Magdalena Neuner claimed victory in the last individual race despite three shooting errors 17.2 seconds ahead of Sandrine Bailly (FRA). A further 6.4 seconds back Anastasiya Kuzmina (SVK, Fischer) achieved third place.
With todays victory the 23-year old German secured the big crystal globe for the Overall World Cup with 933 points. Additionally she received the small globes for the World Cups in the disciplines Mass Start and Pursuit. Thus Magdalena Neuner confirmed that she is obviously the best biathlete of the 09l10 season.
Simone Hauswald (GER, Fischer skis and boots) crowned the end of her biathlon career by finishing in second place of the Overall World Cup and winning the Sprint World Cup. Last year's winner of the Overall World Cup, Helena Jonsson (SWE, Fischer skis and boots) took third place in the Overall ranking. Thus the best three women of the 09l10 season succeeded with both Fischer skis and boots.
